Listen to your Thyroid
Thyroid issues are becoming an epidemic. The thyroid is known the “heart” of the endocrine system. The main job of the thyroid is to maintain energy levels and disperse hormones throughout the body. When the thyroid is working correctly, we feel great and function right. When it doesn’t? Our body can be wracked with frustrating and hindering symptoms. Millions of people suffer from the symptoms of low thyroid - anxiety, irritability, depression, brain fog, weight gain and fatigue - but are often left with negative lab results and doctors unable to give them answers. These symptoms can be absolutely debilitating, and for many, a consequence from the toxins they come in contact with every day. In our discussions about skincare products and chemicals, we’ve touched on only a small sample of the chemicals that harm our body and disrupt our operating systems, including the thyroid gland. At a glance, here are a few of the chemicals that pose major threats to the thyroid: Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) increase the level of the thyroid-stimulating hormone, causing dysfunction and, in some cases, cause a body to become resistant to the thyroid hormone. Chemicals found in soy proteins have been found to inhibit thyroid peroxidase, the enzyme made by the thyroid gland that is crucial to the thyroid hormone’s production. Pesticides, BPA and Triclosan have all been linked to decreasing thyroid production, causing an overall disruption to hormones. While it is nearly impossible to completely avoid chemicals, as they are integrated into our very environment, we can become aware and alert to reducing the amount of chemicals we come in contact with and work towards ridding our body of these harmful compounds.
We feel best and function best when our body is working in it’s natural state. By making wise choices about the skincare and beauty products you use, such as the Max & Madeleine product line, you are reducing your chemical intake and protecting your major systems from disruption. Whole body health starts with making changes. If you want to prevent thyroid issues and to lessen the effects of chemicals on your body, you need to lessen the chemicals in your life. Making small changes can lead to big health results!
